After walking for a long time through sand, rocks, and snow, the little prince finally found a road. All roads lead to where people live.
He stood in front of a garden full of blooming roses.
The little prince looked at them. They all looked like his flower. He felt very sad. His flower had said that she was the only one like her in the whole universe. But here were five thousand of them, all the same, in just one garden!
"She would be very angry," he thought, "if she saw that... She would cough a lot, and she would pretend to be dying to avoid being laughed at. And I would have to pretend that I was saving her life—because if I didn't, to also humble myself, she might really die..."
Then he thought: "I thought I was rich because I had a flower that was one of a kind in the whole world; but all I have is a normal rose. Just a normal rose, and three small volcanoes—and one of them might be gone forever... That doesn't make me a very great prince..."
